About Us
Read our boutique's sweet beginnings & story:
Kaylee Jane Lane Baby Boutique is named after my preemie daughter, Kaylee Jane.
She was born 2 months early as a preemie (31 weeks 4 days) and was born so small (2 pounds 11 oz)
Kaylee was so little and still undeveloped, her preemie newborn skin wasn't developed enough for clothes.
If you are curious, here is a little bit about preemie baby skin:
Preemie babies in the NICU often have skin that is underdeveloped and more sensitive than that of full-term infants. Preemie skin is thinner and more delicate, making it more susceptible to irritation and injury. Clothing can rub against their skin, causing damage. Preemies struggle with thermoregulation. In some cases, it's easier for healthcare providers to monitor and maintain their body temperature without clothing, using incubators instead. Many preemies require continuous monitoring and medical interventions, such as IVs or other equipment. Clothing can complicate access to these areas, so it’s often simpler to keep them without clothes. The NICU staff may need to apply special moisturizers or ointments directly to the skin. Removing clothing makes it easier to provide this care without obstruction. The NICU environment is controlled for temperature and humidity. Keeping babies without clothes helps maintain optimal conditions for their fragile skin. As they grow stronger and their skin matures, many preemies will start wearing clothing as they transition out of intensive care.
Once Kaylee Jane reached this milestone of her skin becoming stronger and more developed we celebrated wearing preemie clothes! It was emotional picking out her first outfit, it felt like a little piece of home.
The NICU is a very emotional place and it's hard waiting for your baby to come home.
Everyday I would write a "dream list" to keep myself going strong.. the days in the NICU were long. I would day dream about the experiences we had to look forward to.. I would talk to Kaylee through the incubator and sing to her about the things that we would someday be able to do together and turned this into a list to look forward to such as play dress up, have tea parties, go to Paris. One of the frivolous items on the list was "start a baby boutique" :-)
After 27 long days in the NICU, Kaylee Jane came home.
It's been an amazing journey this year with her to reflect and share with the world.
As Kaylee Jane is approaching one, I opened my NICU journal and laughed when I read some of the things I wrote. I stopped at the baby boutique and thought in a wishful thinking, "what if I actually did that"
It had been a long year of miracles and I decided to just go for it, I started the baby boutique as a celebration of her 1st birthday.
Kaylee Jane is a dream come true and it is so special to build this boutique for her. www.kayleejanelane.com
When I started Kaylee Jane Lane I first opened the boutique exclusively online. I had always been interested in online retail and e commerce.
It had been a couple months of setting up the website and taking pictures of our first batch of inventory. I was so excited with the items and felt strongly to have a storefront and in store presence. It was at this time I was drawn to a magical place, Golightly's Antiques and Decor.
What's inside the beautiful pink building?
Driving on Davis Blvd in North Richland Hills is a vibrant pink building that caught my eye, sparking curiosity made me wonder what hidden treasures lay inside it's cheerful doors.
Golightly's is owned by Janet Golightly, the owner of her 30 year old business and is unlike any other.
Golightly's is a charming treasure trove nestled in the heart of North Richland Hills, Texas.
Let's go inside!
As I strolled through the inviting aisles, I discovered everything from elegant furniture pieces and decorative accents to handcrafted items and one-of-a-kind collectibles.
The warm, welcoming atmosphere invited me to explore and find hidden gems that tell a story and spark joy. Every square inch of Golightly's is captivating. There are tree branches decorating the ceiling with glittery artifacts hanging, a leopard staircase that leads to a sea of exciting booths filled with floor to ceiling quirky fun items.
But what was missing was baby clothes, baby gifts, and children's items.
I reached out to the owner and inquired about bringing my online boutique inventory to Golightly's.
Where is the baby boutique?!
Up the leopard stairs, of course ;-)
Kaylee Jane Lane Children's and Baby Boutique is proud to be located inside the bubble gum colored pink building and up the hand painted leopard stairs of Golightly's Antique and Decor.
